Unity plugin 2.0 disables itself if it detects that it’s not the active VR SDK.
You must enable VR in Unity, and then add Split Stereo Display (non head-mounted) as the first option in the list.
Go to `Edit -> Project Settings -> Player`, and in the Inspector, it looks like this:

FYI, in Unity 2017.3, "Split Screen Display (non head-mounted)" has been renamed to "Mock HMD - Vive".
