    No timeline? That's scary.
I look forward to your R&D guys comment. I'm really keen to get this baby running on Linux.

We have some big Mac/Linux fans working here, so it's definitely being worked on, even while we're officially handling other tasks. Last I heard, we had major parts of the SDK compiling on MacOS.

The reason we don't have a timeline is that there are a lot of things we're working on and we don't want to disappoint people by giving out estimates that end up not being hit due to the nature of software development. There are a number of hurdles left on Mac and Linux so it's difficult to get a reliable estimate on how long it will take to tackle them.

So while it may not be plotted on a timeline per se, it's definitely coming up on our roadmap.

Guys, what's the status? I have a very expensive piece of dead hardware sitting on my desk.

I would really like to dig into using this for some very exciting realtime look development applications in visual effects (probably something not many people are looking into, in the VR space). But the visual effects industry is almost exclusively on Linux.

MacOS would be start, because the platform is similar. Any update? Pleeeeeease?

+1 for this.... as I have a useless VR unit that considering selling on eBay if it doesn't get Mac support soon.

I'm another Kickstarter supporter who supported this project strictly because of the promise of multi-platform support. Until it gets either macOS or Linux support I can't use it, and I know I'm hardly alone in this camp. I'd argue that getting at least a beta level driver for Linux and macOS ought to be a priority as it looks like quite a few of the early adopters are unable to even use it now.

Agree with above.  Definitely need to have linux OSX support prioritized way above further windows development if there's going to be any adoption.  Even a bare-bones API would be sufficient.

    Hi Moritz,

Unfortunately we haven't gotten into OSX/Linux support yet. We have experimented internally a bit, but our top priotity has to be to get the Windows support running smoothly for every user because that is what we've promised at launch.

We don't have official plans for supporting those platforms yet, but the more feedback we get from non-Windows users, the faster that day probably comes, so thanks for your feedback!

Is there any possibility to get started on this by myself? Any technical documentation, source code for (Windows) drivers etc.?

Also: what is the timeline for Linux/OS X support? Aka: what is the earliest time you have planned to have Windows support 'smooth' enough to assign development resources to other platforms? Specifically: what about Steam?

Hi Moritz! As mentioned, since there are no plans that are public yet, we unfortunately don't have an official timeline. The next step we are trying to have time for is to put together a Win 7 beta, but Linux/OSX are still down the road.

Is there any way to get a nitty, gritty, dirty version of the SDK on MacOS? Please.

It is literally so that I can either build a PC now, just to use my FOVE or have an expensive piece of hardware, that I backed with me private funds, collecting dust on my desk.

+1 for Linux/OSX support (mainly Linux) - Ideally, I would like to use a VR-based desktop environment.

+1 here too... I dual-boot for games, so I'm able to use Windows, but I really hate to do so. I think I speak for most linux users when I say a linux version doesn't need to be as polished as a Windows version--even just a basic C++ library for post-processing of the device data and a spec sheet for how to talk to it over USB would suffice for development work. In any case, I'm really looking forward to eventual linux support.
