FOVE - Head Tracking Problems

    Something I've come across online was this image of another FOVE users position image view:

    As you can see in the above image, the tracking IR are precise when compared to how ours are appearing as in the image below:

    This blurred effect is appearing, at various distances. I would imagine this may be an issue?

    Hi Sasha, can I just confirm that you're having the tracking issues too?

    If anyone actually not having tracking issues could they please reply to the thread.

    Yes, the position is constantly shaking, at turns 90 degrees reset position, moreover at various distance, which greatly annoyed.

    I've been having the same problems along with a decreased sampling rate with the new update. It has gotten so bad that I have to play with the position tracking camera face down.

    Hi Link,

    I don't believe we've tried this, it may actually get us out of a spot if it works. Thanks for the suggestion

    Hi Conor,

    This is the first time I've come across these problems. There could be several causes that lead to this issue. Could each of you separately make a bug report over here: https://support.getfove.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

    Please follow the instructions under category C (bug report). Make sure to also add the serial number of your headsets, such that we can check if there are any common grounds between your FOVE 0s.

    My apologies for the problems.

    Kind regards,

    Remco

    I'm seeing the same issues but it does appear to be dependent on distance from the camera.

    Does anyone know if the FOVE would work with another sensor? i.e the new Oculus sensor? If anyone has it one if these, it might be worth giving it a shot.

    Yesterday we released our latest version of the software (v0.11.4). You can download it at: https://www.getfove.com/developers/

    Hopefully it solves the problems that people were having with position tracking. Please try it.

    While the jitter/head tracking problems have been reduced, we're still experiencing the issues on update 0.11.4..

    Yesterday we released v0.12.0 of our SDK. Please test it.

    How much is your cpu being taxed? Is it running at almost 100%?

    Tested today using the latest update, I could only run a short test and noted that the performance is increased in terms of the overall device. The jitter effect experienced previously appears to have stabilized. However, the camera is still loosing tracking resulting in a jump.

    It's great to see progress, I'll be running extended tests later and posting the results.

    @CK
    Is the headset actually moving outside of the bounds of the position tracking camera. Or is it just losing the headset for a fraction of a second, while it is in frame?

    We'll try to keep improving our algorithm. Any feedback is welcome.

    @nisikasugai
    Another thing that would give us more information is if you compare the performance when the position tracking camera is plugged in and when the camera is unplugged.

    @Remco

    So I've had time to re-test this again today. The tracking loss occurs when the head tracking camera gets confused resulting in the headset resetting it's position in the VR environment. I've monitored the tracking camera and at no stage is the headset  moving outside the camera bounds.

    This issue only occurs for a split second, however this is a key issue moving forward in terms of development.Other fixes which have came out of the recent patches have been phenomenal in terms of performance. Fingers crossed we can solve this final one.
